Physically Fitness
- Not much physical requirement is necessary
for low-altitude trekking and nature
walks. While anyone can take low altitude
trekking and nature walks, high-altitude
trekking like the mountaineering and
climbing can be undertaken by only those
who is not suffering from high/low blood
pressure or obesity. People with high/low
blood pressure or who are overweight
are advised not to participate in high-altitude
games and sports. Anyone, who is physically
fit and mentally sound and is between
the age group of 16 and 60, can participate
in this adventure sport.
Weather Conditions - It is well known
that, trekking in India is becoming

during the monsoons should be avoided.
February-March are the best months for
low-altitude trekking in the Himalayas

the best months are April-May, when

months of July and August receive heavy
rainfall and, therefore, these months
are not recommended for the amateur

Things
to carry - It is recommended that a
trekker should take up physical and
dental examination before undertaking
a trek. The first aid kit that you take
with you depends on the length of the
trek, its location and the no of people
that are taking up the trek tour. Iodine
tablets are the best reliable methods
for sterilizing water for drinking,
cooking and washing.
Some of the items a trekker requires
while trekking on the higher altitude
regions in India: a broad- brimmed hat,
UV proof glasses with side blinkers
and SPF-15 sunscreen that can protect
one against the increased solar radiation
at high altitudes. The air can be very
dry in the Himalayas, so carrying a
scarf and a lip balm is essential. To
avoid dehydration always carry a water
bottle with you and it's essential to
frequently drink water. |

in India can broadly be divided in two
major areas: The Western Himalayas covering
the states of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal
Pradesh, and Uttaranchal and The Eastern
Himalayas covering Darjeeling region

Western
Himalayas - The major trekking
areas of the Western Himalayas are in
the state of Uttranchal. The areas around
Gangotri and Yamunotri have quite a
good number of popular treks. Nanda
Devi is another famous trekking option
and most of the area comes under Kumaon
region.
Eastern Himalayas - Most
of the trekking routes in Eastern Himalayas
cover the states of Sikkim, Arunachal
Pradesh, and the hilly areas of West
