A nearby attraction of Sawai Madhopur, in the state of Rajasthan, Ranthambore National Park is an outstanding example of Project Tiger's efforts at conservation in the India . It was the hunting ground of Maharaja of Jaipur. In 1955, it was declared a game sanctuary; in 1980, it became a national park. But with the commissioning of Project Tiger in 1972, it was included in the project. With the addition of neighbouring Keladevi and Mansingh sanctuaries, the total area of the national park stands at 1,334 sq km. But the entire park - the core area is just 392 sq kms - is not open to the public. The Ranthambore Park is set between the Aravalli and Vindhya ranges. Its deciduous forests were once a part of the magnificent jungles of Central India .
Attractions of the Park
Tigers can easily be sighted at the Ranthambore National Park . Tourists from across the globe can be seen enjoying the wildlife at the Ranthambore. There are several wildlife photographers too who click the opportunity of capturing the tiger in its natural habitat, the Ranthambore.

Besides the tiger at the Ranthambore you may spot animals like the antelopes, Indian hare, sambhar, chital, sloth bear, nilgai, chinkara, porcupines, jackals, leopards, jungle cats, fox, wild boar, caracals, hyena, gazelle, mongoose and jacanas. The other attractions at the Ranthambore are the birds like the crested serpent eagles, Indian horned owl, Bonelli's eagle, quail, spur fowl, partridge and paradise flycatcher.
Best time to Visit
Located in the Thar Desert Ranthambore is prone to the heat and dust of long summers. During the months from April to June, the temperature soars and makes Ranthambore an unpleasant destination. Ranthambore is also avoided during the monsoons in the months of July and August. The winters are the best time to visit Ranthambore. Thus, most of the tourists plan their visit to Ranthambore between the months of October and March, when the weather is cool and tolerable.
How to reach at Ranthambore
Ranthambhore National Park can easily access through air, train and bus.
By Air : The nearest national airport is Jaipur. Ranthambhore National Park is 145 kms from Jaipur.
By Rail : The nearest rail junction is Sawai Modhpur at a distance of 11 km and link Ranthambhore with other major cities like Delhi and Mumbai.
By Road : A regular bus service connects Ranthambore to Sawai-Madhopur 12 km, Agra 226 km, Bharatpur 166 km, Delhi 434 km and Jaipur 180 km. Private Horse driven tongas and jeeps are easily available for transportation to Ranthambore.
