• Yamas
The yamas, or restraints are divided into
five moral injunctions, aimed at destroying
the lower nature :- non-violence, truth, non-stealing,
continence and non-avariciousness •
Niyamas
The niyamas or observances are also divided
into five :- purity, contentment, austerities,
study and Ishvarapranidhana (surrender to
God)
• Asanas
Firm, comfortable meditative posture
• Pranayama
The regulation of the breath - forms the
second half of Hatha Yoga.
• Pratyahara
Abstraction of the senses and mind from
objects
• Dharana
Concentration - leads to dhyana.
• Dhyana
Meditation - culminates in samadhi
• Samadhi
Superconscious state or trance
