| Nathdwara
is a popular Hindu pilgrimage site, situated
48-km northeast of Udaipur in Rajasthan, on
the banks of the Banas River and is famous
for vaishnava temples dedicated to Lord Krishna
or Nathji. Foreigners are not allowed in the
temple and photography is prohibited. The
name Nathdwara means ' Gate of the Lord'.
It enshrines Shrinathji - an image of Krishna
, which was originally enshrined at the Vraja
Bhoomi at Mount Govardhana near Mathura .
The image was brought to Mewar, for the sake
of protection during the period of Aurangazeb,
the Mughal monarch. The town is an agricultural
market and has a government college affiliated
with the University of Rajasthan . |
| Nathdwara
is very closely associated with the Vallabha
Sampradaya of Vaishnavism. Prior to his visiting
the Shrinathji shrine, Vallabhacharya is said
to have described Puri, Pandharpur, Srirangam
and Tirupati as four great centres of Vaishnavism,
in his work 'Tatvartha Deepa Nibhandha'. |

| Nathdwara
has very interesting history. This great Vaishnavite
shrine was built in the 17th century on spot
exactly defined by the Lord himself. The legends
have it that the image of the Lord Krishna
was being transferred to safer place from
Vrindaban to protect it from the destructive
wrath of the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. The
image when it reached the spot it vehicle
the bullock carts wheel sank axel deep in
mud and refused to move further. The accompanying
priest realised that this was lord's chose
spot and the image did not want to travel
any further. Accordingly a Temple was built
here. |

can be hired for the journey and for the duration
of your stay here. And the other, the fort
city is also well connected to the other parts
of Rajasthan by road or train. |

Shrinathji Temple is one
of the best attraction of Nathdwara. In Shrinathji
temple, worship (puja) is replaced by servitude
(seva). The temple priests change the vestments
and ornaments of Shrinathji daily with love
and reverence. It is believed that he appears
to his devotees in many forms: the divine
child inspiring parental love, the flute playing
good in the forests of Vrindavan luring maidens
with the melody of his flute. |
| Rajsamand
lake (66 kms) :
Close to Kankroli, is the dam, built by Maharana
Raj Singh in 1660 A.D. Many ornamental arches
and chhatris adorn the embankment. |

chowki : On the banks of the lake
is this pillared edifice which is paved with
marble and has beautifully carved arches and
chhatris. |

Apart from this, Places worth seeing in the
temple include the Moti Mahal. Sudarshan Chakraraj,
Dhwajaji, Kamal Chowk, Ratan Chowk, Mani Kotha
and the temples of Shri Navnit Priyaji. The
Shri Krishna storehouse has silver and golden
