Mountaineering may be just a sport for
many but it is a passion for those love
scaling new heights. Mountaineering
requires a fitness level and skill that
may not be necessary for other adventure
sports. But to be able to climb mountains
one needs to be fully fit and well equipped
to face all the challenges that mountains
pose to a mountaineer. In short mountaineering
is an art that requires skill, strength
and stamina.
Standing on the pinnacle of a mountain
is only part of the complete pleasure
and contentment that one obtains from
mountaineering. For majority of the
people the Himalayan peaks are not accessible
and not climbable. Whenever one thinks
of climbing the peaks, images of roaring
winds, freezing cold and horrible disasters
come to the mind. While on the other
hand, there are many mountaineering

in Mountaineering |
Himalayan
Exposure strongly recommends that before
taking up mountaineering one has to
engage in regular exercise for at least
two months. It is recommended that all
travelers carry a small first aid kit
as well as any personal medical requirements.
All climbers planning to join the trip
should have a high level of fitness
before undertaking the trip.
You must be capable of using technical
equipment like ropes, harness etc, other
wise you may not be able to take part
in the tour until evidence of this has
been presented to the group leader.
To bring wireless sets with them or
take on hire from IMF, for communication
between camps on the mountain and the
base camp. |

Mountaineering
on the Himachal and Uttranchal
Ranges
- The mountain
valley of Himachal Pradesh towards the
northeast captures a mountain kingdom
of Lahaul‚ Spiti and the tribal belt
of Kinnaur. Mountaineering on these
peaks is just awesome, as these exquisite
haunts are less explored.
Uttaranchal another hilly state of India
facilitates mountaineering opportunities
with some of the beautiful peaks idle
for climbing. The place is also a derivation
of the Ganga, one of the holiest rivers

Adventure on the peaks of Kanchenjunga
- Sikkim lies in India's Eastern

the paths meandering through green forests,
waterfalls, untamed streams rambling
through meadows, pilgrim routes and

the North East Ranges - Towards

of 7 sisters, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur,
Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and Arunachal
Pradesh. These Himalaya ranges again

by friendly tribal folks. Mountain climbing

of high altitude rain forest dotted
with spurs, pine trees and crest of
the higher peaks of Himalayas . The
hills of Assam are trimmed by the widespread
Brahmaputra River , along its edge lies
the Kaziranga National Park - the home
of the one- horned Rhinoceros, that
can be easily explored while taking

season for Mountaineering |
The
best period to undertake mountaineering
tours in India is the summers. You can
climb mountains from March to October
while avoiding rainy season between
July and September because landslides
are frequent during this time. Special
permission from the Government of India
is required prior to mountain climbing
tour. A peak loyalty has to be paid
depending upon the height of the peak,
which you want to climb. The Indian
Mountaineering Foundation designates
a Liaison Officer for each mountaineering
tour. People suffering from low or high
blood pressure, heart patients and overweight
people should not undertake mountaineering
tours. Before embarking mountaineering
tours, you must undergo a complete physical
examination.
