| Mount
Abu is a picturesque hill-station in
Rajasthan and more than just a summer
retreat, which is actually a plateau
lying at an altitude of 1200 meters
and is rich in vegetation. Mount Abu
, also said to be 'the paradise of Rajasthan'
is one of the popular Jain pilgrimage
sites. This beautiful and fascinating
city is famous for its Dilwara Caves
and its natural beauty. Named after
the Arbuda Devi, the city is also known
for being the headquarters of the Brahmakumaris
religious sect. Mount Abu was also an
important Vaishnava and shaivite pilgrim
center up to the 11th century. No visit
to Mount Abu can be complete without

This is also the highest point between
the Himalayan range up north and the
Nilgiris in the south. While driving
uphill to Mount Abu , there is a range
of huge smooth rocks with weird shapes,
a result of erosion by high velocity

Station of the Rajasthan in a festive
mood with the Summer Festival, held
every year in the month of June. The
steep rocks, picturesque locations,
tranquil lakes and the pleasant climate
of Mount Abu make it an ideal location
for the festival. The three-day festival
is a feast of folk and classical music
and a window to the tribal life and
culture of Rajasthan. The festival begins
with the singing of a ballad which is
followed by folk dances which enthral
the spectators. Sporting events such
as the boat race on the Nakki lake add
variety to the festival. |
| Brief
History |
| Historically,
the only hill station in Rajasthan,
Mount Abu is much more than just a summer
retreat. The legend has it that Abu
stands for the son of Himalayan, deriving
its name from Arbuada, the powerful
serpent that rescued Nandi, the sacred
bull of Lord Shiva, from a chasm. The
place has also been home to many saints
and sage such as the Sage Vashishtha,
who is believed to have created four
agnikula Rajput clans from a fire -
pit by performing a 'yagna' or fire
sacrifice, to protect the earth from
the demons. |

train or road. By Air :
Mount Abu is connected by air. The nearest
airport in Udaipur and Ahmedabad.
By Rail : The nearest
railhead Abu Road is 27-km, which connect
Mount Abu with all the major cities
of India . By Road :
There is excellent roadway services
in Mount Abu with many important cities
inside and outside the state. Some notable
distances are : Ahmedabad 214 kms, Bombay
835 kms, Delhi 768 kms, Jaipur 515 kms,
Udaipur 182 kms, Jodhpur 291 kms, Ranakpur

& Season |

Mount Abu has a very warm climate. Temperatures
during summers range from 23`C to 28`c.
Temperatures during winters drop to
as low as 10`C. The best season to visit
is from February - June, September –
December, when the weather remains cool
and tolerable. During the summers, one
must carry light tropical clothes. In
the winters, it is necessary to carry
woolens. |

Temple
: These Jain

a natural cleft, this wonderful Durga
temple is chiseled out of a huge rock.
There are some 365 steps leading to
this temple. |

Lake
: According
to the legends, this lake was excavated
with the fingernails of God. The only
lake in India to lie 1200m above from
sea level, it is worth visiting. The
charming and peaceful Nakki Lake , which
lies beyond the Raghunath temple houses
many little islets.

Point: This serene place offers
an amazing view of the crimson colours
of dusk, kissing lush plains on the
horizon. Of the various viewpoints around
