beach at Konark, known Chandrabhaga, rated
as one of the finesh in the world. The Konark
beach is 3 kms away from the famous Sun temple
along the Puri road. Konark also has enticing
beaches. One can have the glimpses of the
local fishing fleet at work. The sunrise at
this beach is a feast for the eyes and an
ideal spot for sun-bathing. Situated about
32-km from Puri on Marine Drive, It is nice
and quiet beach to spend few days. The currents
can be strong here, so swimming can be dangerous.
With a long stretch of clean sands and cool
blue sea making rapids in rolling waves, the
beach has its own lovely serenity. This beach
is considered as one of the best in the eastern
coast. However, there isn't a lot of accommodation
here as yet.
Very near to this beach, lies the legendary
pond where Krishna's son Samba is said to
have been cured from leprosy. A festival
"Magha Saptami Mela" is celebrated
every year, during the full moon phase in
the month of Magha. On this festival night,
Thousands of pilgrims converge on the pool
to take a holy dip in its curative waters
and then shuffle off to the beach to watch
the Sun rise over the sea. This is followed
by a worship of the Nabagrahas (nine planets).
