| Jaipur,
popularly known as the Pink City , located
at a distance of around 258 km from Delhi
and 232 km from Agra . Jaipur got its name
from its founder Sawai Jai Singh (1693-1743),
who had the vision to create a meticulously
planned city as his capital. Jaipur was and
remains the only city in the world, symbolising
the nine divisions of the universe, through
nine rectangular sectors sub-dividing it.
Jaipur is a royal city & this is its most
noticeable aspect, small buildings & festivals
testify it. |
|
Jaipur & its surroundings are rather like
an endless museum and the city also offers
an endless variety of crafts. Jewellers here
still fashion the beautiful enamel-on-gold
pendants, studded on the reverse with precious
stones or pearls & turquoise that one
sees in miniature paintings. Jaipur's lacquer
bangles are famous all over the world, and
the other, The Pink City Jaipur, Capital of
Rajasthan, is famous for it's blue pottery
semi-precious stones & Handicrafts. This
is a city to be visited. |

History |
| The Rose
Pink City founded by Maharaja Jai Singh II
(1693-1743), is the capital of Rajasthan.
The Old City (Known as the Pink City ) is
a great place to wander around. The whole
city was painted in Pink colour by Maharaja
Man Singh II when Prince of Wales, later Edward
VII, visited Jaipur in 1876 AD. Today, every
home within the city is obliged by law to
maintain its facade. It is a very well planned
city laid out in a grid pattern and was designed
by a young Bengali engineer and scholar by
the name "Vidyadhar Bhattacharya".

Attractions |
| Today,
Jaipur is a major tourist attraction in the
country. We list below a selection of major
attractions of Jaipur – |
| Hawa
Mahal: The another name is “Palace
of Winds” Built in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai
Pratap Singh, the Hawa Mahal is a remarkable
structure which overlooks one of the main
streets and also provides some excellent views
of the city. |
| Jantar
Mantar: Across the road from the
palace is the Jantar Mantar, one of the five
observatories built bySawai Jai Singh. A collection
of complex astronomical instruments, chisseled
out of stone- most of which continue to provide
fairly accurate information to this day -
is the highlight of this observatory. |
|
Amer Fort : It is a fascinating
blend of Hindu and Mughal architecture. Built
in the 16th century by Raja Man Singh, it
sprawls on the hillside. Built in red sandstone
and white marble, the palace complex has some
very interesting apartments, the likes of
which are not to be found anywhere else in
the country. Sheesh Mahal, Jai Mandir, Ganesh
Pole and Sukh Niwas are the prominent areas
of interest here. |
| Jal
Mahal : A picturesque palace amidst
the Man Sagar Lake . It was built for royal
duck shooting parties. A great place to visit
during the monsoons. |
