the Desert Festival |
Desert
Festival is most important festival in Jaisalmer
which comes in winters. During the festival,
Thar Desert , the empty sands around Jaisalmer
come alive with the brilliant colour, music
and laughter of the Desert Festival. Desert
Festival is held in the month of January-February
and exudes a delightful spirit. The very rich
and colourful Rajasthani folk culture is on
show here for a few days. Rajasthani men and
tall beautiful women dressed in their brightly
costumes dance and sing lingering ballads
of valour, romance and tragedy. Traditional
musicians attempt to outdo each other in their
musical superiority.
The festival is organised by the tourist authorities
as tourist entertainment around January-February.
The very rich and colourful Rajasthani folk
culture is on show here for a few days. |

the Desert Festival. Over the years, the desert

This festival is celebrate in the favoure
of Camel. Camels are an integral part of the
desert life and the camel events during the
Desert Festival confirm this fact. Special
efforts go into dressing the animal for entering
the spectacular competition of the best-dressed
camel. To add some more fun and color, the
camel show has two unique events - the camel
dance and the camel polo.
Other interesting competitions on the fringes
are the moustache and turban tying competitions,
which not only demonstrate a glorious tradition
but also inspire its preservation. Both the
turban and the moustache have been centuries
old symbols of honor in Rajasthan. |

Rail : There are two trains IJPJ
and Jodhpur express which operates daily from
Jaisalmer to Jodhpur . Jodhpur is connect
to all the major cities of the country by
a meter gauge line. By Road :
A good network of roads joins Jaisalmer with
Jodhpur and many other destinations in and
around Rajasthan. There are many deluxe buses
