| Beaches
In Goa |
| Known
as the paradise for beach lovers as
well water sports, the seductive Goan
coast is sprinkled with excitement.
|
| |
|
| |
The
Colva Beach is broad and beautiful,
and has a stream coursing through it.
Colva is the most important beach in
the south circuit equipped with all
modern amenities like air-conditioned
resort complexes, tourist cottages,
discos, seashell artefact stalls, refreshment
stalls, eateries, guests houses, expanding
the village enormously. Its leafy outlying
'Vaddos', or wards are pleasant enough,
dotted with colonial style villas and
ramshackle fishing huts. The beachfront
is a collection of concrete hotels,
souvenir stalls and fly blown snack
bars strewn around a central roundabout.
|
|
It
is the pride of Salcete and the only
rival to Calangute in scenic splendor.
Here sand, skyand sea blend in enchanting
natural harmony. Colva is the oldest
and largest of South Goa's resorts,
situated approximately 40 kms from Panaji,
the capital of Goa. Colva beach is also
at a distance of 2km from the Benaulim
beach where tourists often go to have
some quiet moments. The beach offers
Exelant accommodation.
|
| It is the main
evening and weekend day-trip destination
for the people of Margao, so it becomes
packed with cars, motorbikes, scooters
and pedestrians. On the road into Colva
from Margao you pass the large Church
of Our Lady of Mercy in Colva is famous
for its miracle statue of Menino Jesus.
The road leading from the Church to
the beach is where all the facilities
are located. Colva is at heart of the
longest unbroken stretch of beach in
Goa from Mormagao peninsular in the
north to Cabo de Rama in the south. |
|
| Romance
in Colva |
A walk on the beaches
is full of delights. Fishermen's motor
trawlers lie anchored in a line offshore.
Tourists in colorful dresses throng
about and several of them can be seen
sunbathing in
the glorious sun. Trinket stalls and
drink stands on the golden sands make
a moonlit
evening on the Colva Beach utterly romantic.
Colva can be pleasant and conve
nient place to stay for a while. Swimming
isrelatively safe while the sand, at
least away from the beachfront, is spotless
and scattered with beautiful
shells. |
| Best
Food and Eating Place |
When the season
is in full swing, Colva's beachfront
sprouts a row of large seafood restaurants
on stilts, some of them very ritzy indeed,
with tablecloths, candles and smooth
music. |
