Calangute
Beach, located 16 Kms from Panaji
–the capital of Goa, is the
most popular holiday resort in Goa
and known as ‘The Queen of Beaches’.
Excellent accommodation facilities
are available at the tourist resort
and cottages. Calangute lie on the
shores of the Arabian Sea of North
Goa in India. It is encircled by Arpora-Nagoa,
Saligao and Candolim, in the Bardez
taluka. Calangute was not the original
name of the beach, but a Portuguese
distortion of the originally Goan
name of "Koli Gutti", which
means the land of the fishermen. Some
people refer to it as Kolyianguttti,
Kalangutti (village of art) Kolngutt,
Kongott or Konvallo-ghott (strong
pit of the coconut tree) because of
the abundance of coconut trees found
here.
Club Cabana at Arpora is a huge club
ideally located on a hilltop overlooking
one of the most exciting beaches of
Goa and India. Spread over different
floors and an outdoor area that includes
a pool & barbecue it can accommodate
1200 people! Private parties are also
organized. The theme nites here with
costumes and decor are particularly
popular. So for a busy beach of Goa,
and a Goa holiday experience in the
company of Sun- worshippers United,
Calangute is the place to be. Seemingly
not all that long ago this Beach was
the beach all self-respecting hippies
headed for, especially around Christmas
when psychedelic hell broke loose.
