the Brij Festival |
| In the
month of March, a famous Brij Festival, staged
a few days before Holi, (the festival of colours)
in the Brij area around the Bharatpur. Held
in honour of Lord Krishna, this festival is
marked by verve and zest. Villagers, in gay,
multihued attire, can be seen singing and
performing the Raslila dance (dance depicting
the immortal love-story of Radha and Krishna).

This
festival held on the eve of Holi. All of Bharatpur
echoes the sound of folk melodies on this
festival. Men and women, rich and poor, young
and old -all are touched by the spirit of
this festival. Boisterous revellers spare
no one during this festival and delight in
splashing colour on everyone around.
Dance music and colorful shops spring up during
this fair. Also on sale are mouth-watering
traditional delicacies. Colorfully attired
village folk enhance the fun of the occasion.
A host of cultural event against the backdrop
of this pretty setting is also organized including
attractive puppet shows.
Days before the festival, main markets in
the walled city of Bharatpur wear a festive
look and the textile shops stock a wide range
of garments and cloth. Sweetshops do brisk
business in sweets like- Ghewar, Rasgulla.
