A
British officer, Captain Forsyth, rediscovered
Pachmarhi, like most hill stations and
monuments of India, in the year 1857.
Pachmarhi is Madhya Pradesh’s
only hill station with the definite
air of a cantonment town. Pachmarhi
situated on a large plateau ringed by
hills on the evergreen central Satpura
ranges, is known as the Queen of Satpura
for its spectacular beauty. The hill
station at a height 3550 ft. is located
in Hoshangabad district, Madhya Pradesh.
The place is surrounded by low lying
rugged hills, ravines, beautiful forests,
12 breathtaking waterfalls, serene pools
and quiet glades and is an idyllic hill
station in Madhya Pradesh.
Pachmarhi is walker's paradise. Wrapped
in lush green meadows and rinsed by
the many streams and waterfalls, Pachmarhi
is a place to enjoy your holidays away
from the concrete jungle. Nestled in
the Mahadeo Range of the Satpura Hills,
it is a paradise for trekkers, rock
climbers, nature lovers and history
freaks. A special mention must be made
of the various Shiva temples in the
area and the annual festival of Shivaratri
which attracts lakhs of devotees and
scores of trishuls which are offered
to Lord Shiva. |
| Pachmarhi
- History |
| James
Forsyth, captain of Bengal Lancers in
1857, discovered Pachmarhi. The hill
station was once the cantonment of the
British. He obviously realized that
the saucer-shaped valley would serve
as an excellent retreat in the summer
and truly peaceful environment for convalescing
British soldiers. Even today one can
find various monument and churches of
the British era in Pachmarhi. |
| Prime Attractions in Pachmarhi |

is a small hill station. The town provides

around. It has a number of trekking
trails around it. Today, the Pachmarhi
is very rich in tourist spots. A nature
lover's paradise, the famous hill resort
of Pachmarhi offers a lot of sites to

set up in 1981, it covers an area of
