| Nandi
Hills, at the southern extremity of
a long range of hills extending from
Bellary to Kurnool districts, is a popular
hill station (1615 meters), 68 km north
of Bangalore. When the mercury rises
in the plains of Karnataka, it is wonderfully
cool in the Nandi Hills. So, many tourists
head to this beautiful hill station
that is named after the bull of the
lord Shiva. Nandi Hills - also known
as Nandidurga, it was one of the summer
retreats of Tipu Sultan. Nandi Hills
was popular with the British too who
built bungalows and laid out gardens

times of Tipu Sultan, when he chose
the beautiful hill station as his summer
retreat. Later the British developed
the hill station and it gained popularity

Tipu's Drop - A 600
m high cliff face where according to
legend, condemned prisoners were pushed
to their death.On misty days when the
wind wails in the trees, you can almost
hear the blood-curdling screams of the
prisoners as they met their gruesome
end. But look down on a clear day and
the view is inspiring. Yoga
Nandishvara Temple - This beautiful
Chola temple has an inscription of Sambhaji,
Shivaji's son. The Dwarapalakas, the
splendid metallic figures are not-to-be-missed.
Amrita Samovar -
The sparkling water of the Lake of Nectar
is a major tourist attraction at the
Nandi Hills.M Bhoga
Nandishwara Temple - At the
base of the Nandi Hills in the Nandi
Village is the Bhoga Nandishwara Temple
that follows the Dravidian style of
architecture. Atop the Nandi Hills are
the temples in honor of Sri Ugra Narasimha
and Sri Yoga Narasimha. |

Muddenahalli,
is in close proximity to the Nandi Hills.
Muddenahalli is renowned as the birthplace
of Visveswaraya. While at Muddenahalli

Hills with nature's bounty like Biligirirangana
Hills, Agumbe Hill and the Madikeri

By Rail :The railway
station nearest to the Nandi Hills is
that of Chikkaballapur just 9 km away.
Though it is the railhead at Bangalore
though 65 km away from the Nandi Hills
is connected with all the major places
in India through rail. There are frequent
trains that connect Chikkaballapur with
Bangalore. By Road:
The excellent road network links the
Nandi Hills with the important places
like Bangalore and Chikkaballapur. Nandi
Hills is situated on the Bangalore -
Hyderabad National Highway. |
