| Devikulam
is a small hill resort in the state
of Kerala where the possibility of getting
mesmerized by its sheer scenic grandeur
is a rule rather than an exception.
A perfect picture of fairy-tale enchantment.
The legend has it that once Sita Devi,
the holy consort of Lord Rama, came
down to frolic in the lake and the place
came to be spoken about as 'Devikulam'
(meaning the lake of the goddess), ever
since. Located 16 kms from Munnar, this
gorgeous hill station symbolises nature
in her pristine glory. The crisp and
cool mountain air heavily laden with
the fragrance of wild flowers and rare
herbs is any nature lover's paradise.

| Today,
the Devikulam is very rich in tourist
spots. A nature lover's paradise, the
famous hill resort of Devikulam offers
a lot of sites to visit. Few of them

Sita Devi Lake, Devikulam
boasts of a breathtakingly beautiful
Sita Devi Lake veiled in the hills.
As the name indicates the lake is associated
with goddess Sita. Tourists flock to
the Lake owing to the splendid surroundings,
many believe in the curative powers
of the mineral water of the lake. It
is believed that goddess Sita had bathed
in the waters of this lake making it
sacred for the pilgrims that visit Devikulam.
Tea Plantations,
there are several tea plantations in
and around Devikulam that add to the
charm of the hill resort. The gum trees
in red and blue are the other major
highlights of the natural vegetation
at Devikulam. For those of the tourists
to Devikulam interested in visiting
the tea estates, tea plantations or
the factories conducted tours are available.
Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary,
a famous sanctuary in Devikulam at a
distance of 50 km from Devikulam. In
the sanctuary you may spot the Elephants,
leopards, gaurs, sambars besides the
highly endangered species of the Grizzled
Giant Squirrel and the Star Tortoise.
You may even climb up the watchtower
and enjoy the wondrous vistas of the
Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary. The Thoovanam
Falls on the river Chinnar are the other
must checkout in the sanctuary.
Munnar, a hill
station of spectacular views, where
three mountain streams confluence. Munnar
waterway offers boating facility. Anamudi
the highest peak in South India [2695m]
is an ideal spot for trekking. Among
the exotic flora found in the forests
and grasslands is the Nelelakurinji,
the flower that bathes the hills in
blue every twelve years will bloom next
2006 AD. Eravikulam National park is
another attraction. Munnar is 130 km
east of Kochi and 70 km north of Kumily.
Kumily, is the
junction town straddling the Kerala
Tamilnadu border just north of park
boundary. It 's a busy place full of
spice shops, located about 4 Km from
Thekkady. The boat trip in the lake
are the standard way of seeing the Sanctuary.

Jungle walks can also be interesting.
Mangalam Devi Temple,
this temple is just a jumple of ruins
and the views are magnificiant. The
festival of this temple falls on the
day of 'Chaitra Pournami' Marayur,
place of the Sandal Forest. Very old
'Sannyasi Caves also can be seen here.
Famous for hand woven 'Pattu Sarees'.
' Marayur Sarkara' [Molasses] also famous.
Rajamala, it is
the part of the National Park, 14 km
from Munnar where Tahir Goats can be
seen. |

| Devikulam
can be easily accessible. In order to
reach Devikulam, you will have to climb
a steep mountain track. The ascent to
Devikulam from Kochi and Kottayam is
of 149 km and 132 km and takes 4 and
½ hours 4 hrs respectively. |
